Mom, I thought crutches would be fun.....

Grant has a joint effusion on his right knee. In other words, he has some fluid on his knee. He is not sure when he hurt it or what he did exactly, but we made a trip to the doctor on Saturday morning and that was the diagnosis. He complained that his knee hurt last Sunday when the kids were playing tag in the back yard. Being the good mom that I am, I told him to take a break and just rest for a while. You see, Grant is my drama queen. He always has some ache or pain. Most of the time it is really nothing, but of course the one time that it really matters, I just blow him off. Anyway, he had a baseball game on Friday night. His leg hurt so bad, he came off the field in tears! We iced it and gave him some pain meds. The next morning, he was still in a lot of pain, so I called the doctor and we were able to get him in. They did xrays and said there was some swelling and fluid around the knee. He is on crutches for the next few days. We will see the orthopedic doctor on Monday and he is out of phy ed for the next week. He thought it was cool to get fitted for crutches. Of course he was supposed to serve mass on Saturday...he was filling in for someone else. We had to find a substitute for the substitute. After church, we has a party to go to. There were lots of kids running around and playing kickball. He felt pretty left out. He said, "Mom, I thought crutches would be fun, but they're not!" Yeah, Grant, they are fun for about 5 minutes, then they are a pain. We told him that he got his bad knees from Papa. In another 55 years he can get his knees replaced just like Papa did! Wow, isn't that something to look forward to! Thanks for the great knees, Papa!
