A big sigh of relief.......

I took Grant to the ortho at Children's Hospital this morning. What an ordeal! His appt was for 8:10am. We had about 4 inches of snow last night so I figure we need to leave a little before 7:00 just to make sure we have enough time w/traffic & navigating the campus of Children's, Froedert & the Medical College of WI. We find the right parking structure and have no problem getting to the ortho hand clinic. We arrive around 7:50am. We are doing good. Just enough time to get the paperwork completed and hopefully get right in. Well, we wait and wait and wait some more. At 8:45 I ask the nice lady at the reception desk if they realize we are still waiting. "oh yes, your file is right there." Ok, back to waiting. We start chatting with other patients in the waiting area. Discussing which doctor we are all there to see. I mention our doctor & one lady says "oh wow, you will be waiting a while. There is always a long wait to see him" Isn't that just wonderful. Glad I made my appointment for early in the morning. Hopefully we will see him by lunch time. Finally at 9:40 they call us in. A very nice nurse spends about 3 minutes with us. Telling us a doctor will be in shortly to make an assessment, then the doctor we made the appt with will be in. It should be too long..... Here we go again. It is only about 15 minutes before dr. #1 comes in. Checks out Grant's finger. Gives us his opinion & says dr. #2 will be in to see us in 10 minutes. 10 minutes turns into 20, then 30. Finally the ortho dr that we came to see is in the room! He spends about 15 minutes with us discussing the finger & what course of action to take. He said his concern is that the fracture was on the growth plate & it appears to be compacted or squished. He wants to make sure that his finger doesn't stop growing because of the compaction. What do we do? We buddy tape it to his index finger & get it re-xrayed in 2-3 months!!! YEAH!!!! Grant was happy to hear that he is still excused from phy. ed. for 2 more weeks. They are starting dance this week :) But if he is out of gym class, for 2 weeks, he is out of basketball as well. After getting all the right papers, we were outtathere!!!! A quick drive thru for lunch and I took Grant back to school and off to work for me. It is so frustrating to sit in a doctors office for so long. I wonder what is the point of making scheduling an appointment if they are going to be running over an hour behind. It would have been nice to at least be acknowledged during that wait. During the wait, we were both getting frustrated, but you know what, it was worth the wait. We got good news. We have so much to be thankful for. Hopefully things will go as well when I am back down at Children's on Thursday with Macie.
